Keep Them Dry Between Uses: Use a soap dish with proper drainage or ridges to allow water to flow away. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause handcrafted soap to become soft and dissolve faster.

Store in a Cool, Dry Place: When not in use, store soaps in a well-ventilated area away from heat and humidity to prevent them from sweating or losing their scent.

Avoid Sitting in Water: Ensure the soap doesn’t sit in puddles by using an elevated soap saver or slotted tray.

Following these steps will keep your handcrafted soaps fresh and enjoyable for as long as possible!

Soap making in North America has its roots in the colonial era, when settlers crafted soap at home using simple, traditional methods. Early soaps were made by combining animal fats and ashes to create a coarse but functional product. By the 19th century, commercial soap production began to take hold, with companies like Procter & Gamble leading the way. Their innovative methods, including the use of steam-powered machinery, revolutionized soap making and made it more accessible to the growing population.

During this time, soap shifted from a utilitarian household item to a widely marketed product, with brands introducing perfumed and specialty soaps to appeal to consumers. The 20th century saw advancements in chemical processes and the introduction of synthetic detergents, further diversifying the soap market. Today, North America celebrates a resurgence of artisan soap making, blending heritage techniques with a focus on natural and sustainable ingredients.
